The Practice of Prayer Register Now for Our Lent Study
Dear friends,

Prayer is one of the most central and basic practices of our faith, something we are taught from childhood. And yet the questions arise: what are we actually doing when we pray? How do we listen for God? How are personal and communal prayer different? And how do we keep going when it doesn’t always seem like God is responding?

These are the sorts of topics taken up by Margaret Guenther in her lovely book The Practice of Prayer. It’s a practical read, addressing honest questions and nudging us toward a deeper life of prayer.

During the season of Lent, you’re invited to read the book and join a discussion group to share questions, reflections, and insights. Throughout the six weeks of this season, groups will meet weekly at a variety of times, based on participants’ availability, mostly online via Zoom. Copies of the book are available from the church office for Chf 15 if you wish. The book study will dovetail with our focus on the Lord’s Prayer in worship this season–and in a time of so much global upheaval, it’s an opportunity to root ourselves more deeply in this life-giving practice.

I hope you’ll consider joining a study group this Lent–it’s a wonderful way to deepen the experience of this season together. Groups will start meeting in early March. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Peace,
Andy
